This month is the time to cross off any final items necessary before school begins. Whether you’re buying school supplies for a little one, prepping your teen for high school, or improving your own education, follow these few safety tips to help make this month a smooth dive back into the school year.
Slow in School Zone
School Zones are for Kids
- Follow the speed limit while in a school zone.
- Follow the direction of school crossing guards.
- No matter which direction you are traveling, brake for school buses and be cautious of children.
- Look out for children, especially near schools and parks.
- Never pass other vehicles, make U-turns, or change lanes while in a school zone.
- If you must use a cell phone, only use hands-free devices.
- Never text and drive.
- Unless licensed, do not park in handicap spaces.
Walking to School
- Look both ways before crossing the street.
- Use designated crosswalks to cross the street.
- Obey traffic signs, signals, and pavement markings.
- Demonstrate traffic safety awareness and select the safest route between your home and the school.
